Museums
- Museum of Truckee History. In the train depot at 10065 Donner Pass Rd., Ste. 1. The Truckee Chamber lists hours Fri to Sun, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., no fees, and a timeline of life, industry and railroading around Truckee. Hours are from the chamber’s listing, not the society’s page.
- Old Truckee Jail Museum. Corner of Jibboom and Spring Streets, 10142 Jibboom Street, one block from Donner Pass Road. Built 1875, open only by appointment, per the Truckee-Donner Historical Society, which also keeps the Joseph Research Library Cabin (open most Thursdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), the Community Memorial Garden, the Donner Cross and Schaffer Cemetery.
Downtown in History
The historical society says many historic buildings remain downtown, including a former Chinese herb shop from the third Chinatown. Whether there is a formally defined historic district, and its boundaries, is not confirmed on the page we read.
