The Collection

The National Automobile Museum opened in downtown Reno on November 5, 1989, according to Wikipedia (secondary). Most of the cars came from William F. Harrah’s collection, about 1,450 cars gathered and stored in Sparks warehouses. Harrah died in 1978, a hotel company that bought the collection announced in 1981 that it would sell it, and a nonprofit was formed; the company donated 175 cars and sold the rest at three auctions in the mid-1980s, and private donors gave about 60 more. Wikipedia says more than 200 cars are on display in four galleries.
