Founded 1939

The resort’s page says it has been independent since 1939. Wikipedia adds that it opened on December 15, 1939, founded by Austrian ski champion Hannes Schroll, that Walt Disney was an early shareholder and that Hemlock Peak became Mt. Disney. Those details come from Wikipedia, a secondary source, and are not confirmed on the resort page we read.

A Claim to Check

The resort calls itself “Tahoe’s Deepest” and says the most snow in Tahoe, based on its 500-inch average. We repeat that as the resort’s own claim; snowfall figures are measured differently at every mountain.

  • Exact 2026-27 opening date and year; closing date.
  • Pass affiliations beyond Sugar Bowl’s own passes (Mountain Collective or others); none appears on the pages we read.
