Entering The United States
U.S. Customs and Border Protection says all persons arriving at a port of entry are subject to inspection by CBP officers (immigration, customs and agriculture). ESTA checks eligibility to travel under the Visa Waiver Program, but the authorization does not decide admissibility; CBP officers decide at arrival. The I-94 admission record can be retrieved online. Start at CBP international visitors.
Flying Within The U.S.
TSA says REAL ID enforcement began May 7, 2025, that a passport can be used instead of a compliant license, and that travelers without acceptable ID pay a $45 ConfirmID fee. The page does not say whether foreign visitors need a REAL ID; a passport is the stated alternative.
Not Confirmed
- Visa and ESTA fees and validity (travel.state.gov and the ESTA site could not be read).
- Power plug standard, tipping customs and the emergency number (we read no official U.S. source).
Local Basics
Arrival, airport shuttles and visitor centers: getting here. Mountain roads in winter: winter driving. Fire rules: the Forest Service says national forest lands in the Tahoe Basin have year-round campfire restrictions, with campfires only in permanently installed iron rings in listed campgrounds, and fireworks are always prohibited.
What We Could Not Confirm
These items were not read on an official page when we checked, so we do not state them as fact. Who can confirm each one is named.
- Visa and ESTA fees and validity.
- Power plug standard, tipping and emergency number from an official U.S. source.
